*the newest “Banksy” Mural – ‘Hornsey Road’ London N7 (March 2024)

Posted on March 21, 2024 by Geoff Clements Posted in Art, People, Quirky Topics, Street Art .
Earlier this week – having seen a number of news reports on tv and also coverage on social media – my London Shoes trekked off to a specific location in North London, to seek out a ‘new’ landmark that had suddenly appeared, just a couple of days previous.
Overnight on Sunday 17th March 2024, the latest “BANKSY” mural of green paint that had suddenly appeared on a side wall of a building in the Hornsey Road-London N7  – the Holloway/Finsbury Park area of North London) just in front of some residential flats.
From a distance, the green painted area that sits behind an existing tree standing next to a flats. The tree has had its branches cut right back, and with Banksy’s green paint gives the impression of a tree in full bloom (not sure that’s the correct terminology, for a tree covered in leaves!!).

The famous but totally elusive Banksy confirmed early on Monday 18th March, that he was the culprit – and since then there has been extensive coverage of its existence on tv/radio/social media – causing hundreds of people to flock down to the Hornsey Road to see this new landmark and take their photos.

My ‘London Shoes’ legged it down there on Weds 20th March, just 3 days following its arrival – and there were loads of people down there at the location.
The area was fenced off on Weds 20th, as people were clambering all over the lawn/gardens in front of the flats – but even with the mural site fenced off, that still didn’t prevent some twat chucking a load of white paint over it……..I just don’t get it!!!

Anyway – having spent some time viewing this ‘new’ Banksy landmark – me and my long time mate Pete, my accomplice for the day – decided it was time for a little liquid refreshment, and stumbled upon a proper old skool back street pub “The Landseer Arms” – located in Landseer Road-London N19 – just off the Holloway Road – and what a great find it was too.

‘The Landseer Arms’  was built in 1874, but the pub has seen many changes over the years.
In 2002 it was re-named after Sir Edwin Landseer, the guy that designed the Trafalgar Square Lions.

Its current owners took over the pub in 2017– before that it had been a Wetherspoons ‘JJ Moons’.
The ‘Landseer Arms’ has plenty of room, with seating outside as well – and they serve up a quality pint of Guinness. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself down the Holloway/Finsbury Park way of ‘norf landan’….!!!

Anyway – a short & sweet blog this one, I know- but a little bit of ‘Banksy’ history that I felt warranted coverage by ‘Shoes’.
Hope you enjoyed the accompanying photos.

What kind of person would want to fling paint over something like that though? Morons!

I think a tree is said to be “in full leaf” rather than blooming

Ha, when I saw a report about the painting earlier in the week I thought he had actually painted a tree on the side of the building, didn’t realise it was just the ‘leaves’! Anyway, don’t really understand why someone then thinks it’s a good idea to chuck paint over it 🙄
