Looking at these really does make it all seem so real and also surreal. One thought was how clean it all appears. Also how much it looks like a sci-fi film set. Never before in the history of our glorious capital city has this apparent exodus ever happened….and somehow it doesn’t feel like it will ever be quite the same again. A new London will emerge, with memories, with history, with bygone ways and maybe yearnings, but also with renewed values and hope and respect for much that we’ve previously taken for granted. You’ve done a great job in documenting this time, it will be interesting to see how things develop.

…PS….the photo of Romford July 2020…. is that of the brewery? I haven’t been back there for many many years so it could be a newbuild of trendy houses!! No, though, if it is the brewery, my older sister worked there and I remember going as a youngster with our mum to meet her for her lunchbreak when we would go to the chinese restaurant nearby – a very modern thing to do, as it was the first in the area I think,- this would probably have been in the mid 60s!

Hello Angela – Yes, it is a photo of the original entrance buildings to the old Romford Brewery.

Because Romford is my hometown base, I did a blog on the history of the Romford Brewery during the Covid19 lockdown this summer – as, at that time, I did not want to venture out unnecessarily on the train to central London.
I’ve attached below, the link to that blog published on my London Shoes website, as I think you will find it interesting and enjoy it, especially as your older sister used to work there.
Would welcome your feedback on it.
      Kind regards & stay safe

Another highly informative and fascinating piece, thank you I did enjoy it. I have forwarded the link to my sister so I’ll have to catch up with her soon to see what she thinks!
